Darkness dissipates when light is present. We don’t have to chase darkness away. It is automatically dealt with when the light is turned on within us. Removing demons so His light can shine unobstructed in us and through us
Demons can be cast out, curses broken off, and gloom and heaviness dispelled by God’s power and light. Putting on the full armor of God allows us to live in daily victory and keep darkness out. These steps are clearly laid out in Scripture and covered in this series.
I walked in oppression for the first 10 years of my Christian life
When I was saved at age 15, I devoured the Bible and sought diligently to obey the commands and rules I was discovering. The problem was that man is unable to keep God’s law (Rom. 8:3). Our flesh too weak to overcome the forces of satan. Therefore I often felt depression and heaviness. I believed God was displeased with me and punishing me because of my failures. The result was that I was inviting demons of darkness, accusation, lies, deception, and shame into my life.
The day the light of Christ was greatly enhanced within me
At age 25, God woke me with a booming bass voice, saying, “Get up! I am going to teach you how to hear My voice.” That morning, He revealed to me four simple keys to hearing His voice: I am to quiet myself down, behold Jesus at my right hand, recognize His voice as flowing thoughts and His visions as flowing pictures which I recorded in two-way journaling.
I checked out my journaling by sharing it with my wife, who is a key spiritual advisor in my life. Patti confirmed that it was God speaking to me, and that it lined up with Scripture.
That day, I journaled for five hours. I had broken free from rationalism and legalism and been restored to walks in the Garden with my Lord and Savior.
Light poured in with an intensity I had never before experienced.
Living out of His voice lifted the darkness, depression and heaviness
I then began each morning in two-way journaling, writing down the flowing thoughts and flowing pictures I was receiving from His River which flows within all believers (Jn. 7:37-39). I found He was not accusing me. He was not putting me down. He was not displeased with me. He loved me. He was full of joy and laughter, and He asked me to adopt this same lifestyle of peace and joy (Rom. 14:7).
Jesus even laughed at my “learning curve” mistakes and failures. He reminded me that I was to “in everything give thanks” (1 Thess. 5:18), and that “everything” includes my mistakes and sins. I could learn just as much if not more when I messed up as when I was doing everything perfectly. Wow, what a relief!
I did go through deliverance, which removed areas of darkness that were influencing pockets within me.
We cover deliverance in the module called “Prayers That Heal the Heart” and yes, I believe every believer ought to go through that module as part of getting cleaned up and set free from heart wounds and demonic forces which attach to those heart wounds. This takes a big load of heaviness off one’s shoulders and results in experiencing a wonderful new freedom.
Receiving fresh manna daily releases God’s light into our lives
The Israelites were instructed to go out every morning to get fresh manna for the day. They couldn’t store it up as it spoiled by the second day (Ex. 16:16-20). We are created to drink daily from the Fountain of Living Waters and not try to store God’s living water in cisterns which leak (Jer. 2:13). So, no storing up a spiritual charge for multiple days or weeks. We are to gather fresh manna each day. For me, that means I journal at least a few minutes every morning, and let Jesus speak words of life to me. Five minutes of God speaking truly brightens my heart and soul.
Jesus lived in daily communion with His Father
He said over and over in the Gospel of John, “I do nothing on my own initiative, but only what I hear and see my Father doing” (see blog). Jesus, our perfect example walked in the light, moment by moment. Jesus said, “Satan had no part in Me because I always do the things that are pleasing to Him” (Jn. 8:29; 14:30).
The KEY PRINCIPLE is…
Darkness automatically flees
when we walk in the light. Obedience means the Spirit is not being quenched (1 Thess. 5:19) which results in a fullness of divine light flooding our beings.
Darkness cannot co-exist with light. The heaviness of oppression is broken off! I don’t even need to attack darkness or chase it away. I simply need to turn the light on by communing with Jesus.
This is a simple way to live
Yes, it is simple, however it takes diligence to relearn how to live properly because my culture and my church had not taught me that I could dialogue daily with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Now instead of trying to perfectly keep laws, I seek to perfectly release a Person Who lives within me. My one and only goal is to see Jesus present and communicate with Him, receiving His perspective, wisdom, creativity, solutions, anointing, and power. These come as I tune to the flow of His indwelling river, the Holy Spirit. I live a supernatural life. I abide in Christ. This is the New Covenant. This is the Christian lifestyle.
Four key truths we will explore in this series
I SEE correct pictures
Christ HAS won! Satan is defeated. I AM seated with Christ, ruling! Since a picture is worth 1000 words, the pictures I behold fashion my reality. I must be gazing upon correct pictures of Truth, as described in the Bible.
I LIVE BY the Holy Spirit
and evil spirits flee! I live from My FATHER’S INITIATIVE, just as Jesus did. I do not grieve the Spirit.
I PUT ON the full armor
of God and stand firm. God’s armor protects me from satan’s schemes!
My HEDGE is NOT broken
the serpent can’t bite. I repent of sins, remove curses, and rebuild walls utilizing illumined Scripture which is received through Bible meditation.
HOW important is it to live in daily communion?
You might wonder, “Is this is a nice add-on that I seek to attain to if I ever become a spiritual giant, or is this the heart reality of a New Covenant believer?” To answer this, I would encourage you to read this blog – Jesus Sets the Pattern for Living Out of Divine Initiative
Then journal and ask the Lord, “How central is it to do nothing on my own initiative, but only what I hear and see my Father doing?” Recall Abraham birthed Ishmael out of his own initiative, because he believed it would be instrumental in fulfilling God’s destiny for his life. God rejected Ishmael, and we have a 3000-year war that was started instead!

Dan Arens journals and gets enlightenment from the Wonderful Counselor – “Am I purifying the flow of your words to me all the time?
Jesus answers: No, you start and stop the flow and start it again. Picture the story of Peter walking on the water. Peter could clearly see Jesus and what Jesus was doing. Peter started out fine. The problem is when Peter took his eyes off Jesus he turned to his own vision and his own understanding instead of Jesus and he began to sink. In the spiritual, you do the same. You start out fine but as soon as there’s a problem or something happens you don’t like or understand, you question it and then you stop the flow and start to sink because then your eyes aren’t fixed on Jesus. Then after you analyze it, you turn back to Jesus and then Jesus has to pull you up to stop you from sinking like He did with Peter. Then you start this process and cycle all over again. So instead of letting it be a smooth and constant flow by focusing continually on Jesus, which allows Me to work through you like I want to, it’s limited.”
Lord, show me the areas of my heart that are wounded and which You would like to heal. Do I have a fullness of faith, hope and love concerning my health?
Vision: I see something like a cave, but it somehow resembles the insides of a person’s body like the internal linings of a stomach or something, with the colors of the scenery or cave being dark red and dark colors. I see Jesus walk in the midst of this cave and I see Him carrying me under His arm. He then puts me down and holds me close and is showing me around. I see things floating around, looking like “bacteria” or something. I see Jesus lift up His hand towards them and then I look up and see a light shining through.
Jesus: My strength is made perfect in your weakness. I am your healer, and I am your maker. I am the One who restores hearts and bodies. Though much goes on in the human body, I am watching over everything, and I am healing and restoring and protecting. Do not fear, for no harm shall come, but I will strengthen you. Though weakness may have its moments in your body, I am there to heal and give grace. There is grace, My child. You are already experiencing my healing power in your jaw. You already have seen the change in your physical health, how it is better than before. So do not fear for what will come. Even the things you have heard about post-partum life and how it demands much from the human body, do not worry about that. For don’t I know what you are able to handle? I will not cause anything beyond what you can withstand, that goes for spiritually, physically, emotionally, and mentally. So, rest in Me. And keep believing and declaring My words of life, My words of healing, and strength. Declare it and claim it and believe it. And though days come of physical tiredness or weakness, just press into Me and receive My strength. Remember, there is new mercy and grace for each day, and if you look closely, it is within each minute and hour passing by in that day. So, take care of yourself, for you are My temple, but do not fear over little or big things. I am your healer. I am your maker. I watch over you with loving eyes and gentle hands.
Cathy: Amen, Lord. I believe and receive Your words of life and healing. I believe in Your healing power, and I have witnessed it in my life before and I know You will continue to strengthen this body of mine. I trust You and know You are healing what needs healing, and that there is mercy and grace for each day. “For my heart is glad, my whole being rejoices, my flesh also dwells secure.” Amen.
How do I see vision all the time, as Jesus did?
Since I want to see what God is doing in the present moment, I often begin with a godly imagination, which transforms into a vision when I pray for the eyes of my heart to be enlightened, tune to flow, and the Spirit brings the scene alive. These visions bring joy, peace, and hope (click here to watch a video of this teaching on YouTube).
Working definitions that allow me to step into daily visions
Godly imagination is when I am picturing God’s truth. Evil imagination is when I am picturing things contrary to Scripture (Jer. 7:24).
Vision occurs when I pray asking that the eyes of my heart be enlightened (Eph. 1:17-19), tune to flow (Jn. 7:37-39), and God take overs my godly imagination, bringing it alive. At this point I have just stepped from a godly imagination into a vision. Jesus lived in vision all the time (as shown in this blog).
Emotions are a by-product of pictures – “I will keep him in perfect peace whose imagination is stayed on me” (See Hebrew word definitions). Since emotions will NOT respond to my logical commands, I will use God’s approach of utilizing godly imaginations, releasing them to flow and stepping into heavenly visions. Kingdom pictures produce Kingdom emotions (Rom. 14:17). Astounding!
Tips on “How do I yield my godly imagination to Spirit flow?” Ask the Holy Spirit to take over the scene and show you what He wants you to see (Eph. 1:17,18). Become childlike. Smile. Picture yourself as a child. Become playful. Take a deep slow breath. Cease your labors; enter into rest. Stop striving and grunting. Honor the flowing thoughts and pictures which appear as they are coming from the River of God that flows within you.
How much time should we invest learning to clean oppression out of my life?
If living and walking in communion with Jesus is the heart of the New Covenant, then how many sermons should we hear on how to hear and live out of God’s voice? How much time should we spend meditating on what it means to live as Jesus lived, in total obedience to the voice of the Spirit?
I spent a few years on this topic: one year on the four keys to hearing God’s voice, one year on abiding in Christ, one year on Prayers that Heal the Heart. My books describing my findings include Dialogue With God, Naturally Supernatural, Prayers that Heal the Heart, and Counseled by God.
The result is that my Christian experience has turned from a religion of laws coupled with my frustration over my inability to keep them, to a relationship of intimacy with the Holy Spirit and the release of His indwelling power, and freedom from demonic oppression.
