Update on this concept. I was doing an assignment for Chapter 10 and it related to this one. The assigment was to journal on Hebrews 8:5
They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”
Here’s what the Lord said: I set up many patterns that people didn’t understand. That is how people learn. They need a structure to build understanding. We can’t get into deep things until you learn things that are functional and seem more like ritual. You learn to how to wash your hands, that’s a physical process. Then I show you how that reflects into your health. It’s a little deeper lesson to keep you physically healthy. But then I begin to teach you how physical washing is like spiritual washing. The truths get deeper and deeper but if you didn’t understand the first process, the last wouldn’t make sense either. It is scaffolding like you learned in teaching, your education classes. I was setting up the structure to build on here. There are deeper truths and they get deeper and deeper.
So, in lesson 10 God verified what you said and what I questioned. How’s that for continuity? Hahahaha.
The first time I went through the 4 Keys to Hearing God’s Voice, I made a deal with another friend who wanted to hear God’s voice better too. We both read the book and watched the videos. However, my hearing took off and she struggled a lot. I shared a lot of what I was hearing with her for a while, hoping that it would inspire her. Over time, I realized that she was putting in a lot of effort and really hearing very little. So, my testimony started to be less of an encouragement and more of a discouragement to her. So, what seemed like a natural place to share the journaling changed. This was about 4 years ago, I’m doing the material again under the Lord’s instruction to make it more complete and prepare for using this information better in ministry. As ab aside, my friend is now hearing super well, it’s a great testimony complete with angelic intervention but that’s a little off topic for now. My point is that natural connection of sharing with someone who was doing the same thing didn’t happen. I thought about it the same way you did, I knew people who were sensitive to the Spirit but they weren’t doing this journaling thing. I struggled with it for a while. I kind of ignored those directions to find a counselor in the beginning. I wasn’t purposely trying to go another direction and not listen to the counsel because it sounded very wise. What I did in the beginning was to share with different friends what I was hearing. If they had brought up a concern, I would have listened but I don’t remember anyone doing that. It was actually when I was taking a different friend, who wanted to hear God’s voice more clearly, through this material and doing it again with her, that I actually officially found my spiritual advisors. I think that the advice of finding spiritual advisors is very good and a wonderful safety net. It took me a while to get there.
What I hear in your first 4 answers to the questions (the ones specifically about finding advisors) is that God is telling you to relax and not be too caught up with “getting it done.” He said He will set it up but it may look different so just watch and listen. I wanted to share my story because it looked different for me in the beginning too. I hope this helps. I also wanted to encourage you to specifically ask God about the two friends that you mentioned. Two of the people that I first thought about filling the role of reading my journaling are the ones that did end up doing it. If I remember right, their lives were too busy at that time so that was part of what made me hesitate in asking. Your two friends may be the right ones and maybe the timing is not right yet or maybe it’s something else. This forum is a good place to start and it has a good safety net since Mark is also watching and this is definitely the ministry that God has called him to.
God bless you out on the mission field. I am preparing to help with missions as well but I believe my calling is to help from the US. I am talking with YWAM right now. Although the exact organization and timing isn’t clear yet.
