When you complete this lesson, you will…
- Skillfully discern what activities of your life are spiritual (on the level of your spirit) and which are soulish or fleshly.
- Know ten things we are exhorted to do wholeheartedly, and the only acceptable focus of wholeheartedness.
- Guard your heart with all diligence, every day.
Before you begin…
Spiritual truth can only be revealed and received by the work of the Spirit of God. You must depend on Him to open the eyes of your heart to make what He desires known to you.
Lord, I draw near with a sincere heart, repentant and washed by the blood of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I set aside my thoughts, my reasoning, my theology, my fears and my pride. I relax, cease my own strivings, and tune to your flow within. Holy Spirit, I open my heart and mind to you. I ask that You anoint the eyes of my heart and enlighten my understanding. I ask that You grant me God’s thoughts, God’s pictures, God’s emotions and God’s creativity. Thank you for what you reveal, in Jesus’ name, Amen. (Ps. 46:10; Ps. 62:5; Heb. 10:22; Eph. 1:17,18; Jer. 29:13; Isa. 1:18; Jn. 7:37-39; Acts 2:25)
Assignments for Lesson Six:
u Listen to or watch Teaching Session 6, taking notes.
u Prayerfully complete Chapter 5 and 6 of How to Walk by the Spirit, including the Applications and Journaling Responses. Remember to be dependent on the Spirit to reveal truth to you through the Scriptures and to speak to you about your own spirit as you wait quietly before Him. Answers that come from merely your own mind will be limited in their knowledge and usefulness. You want answers that come from One wiser than You!
u Memorize Jeremiah 29:13 – “You shall seek Me and you shall find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”
u Share your journey: Post your testimony to the module forum to encourage someone else that it really is possible to overcome the power of sin and live the supernatural Christian life.
u Prepare for Quiz Six. Don’t just draw on your own ability to remember what you’ve learned. Holy Spirit is your Teacher and He lives inside of you. Before you begin your quiz, pray from the heart:
Holy Spirit, I quiet myself before You, and I ask that You remind me of the things I have learned. You have promised to bring things to my remembrance. I ask You to do that now. Thank you!
